Red Hat Customer Content Services

Abstract

This guide explains how to connect new Red Hat user accounts to your organization's corporate Red Hat account when first signing in to Red Hat.

Preface

When a user first signs in to Red Hat.com, they are asked to create an account. With auto-user registration, a link is provided that allows the user to create their Red Hat account and connect it to their organization’s corporate Red Hat account.

Chapter 1. Auto-user registration

New Red Hat user accounts can automatically be registered with their organization’s corporate Red Hat account via auto-user registration. The Organization Administrator allows users in the organization to register their user ID for access to the organization’s Red Hat account. Without auto-user registration enabled, the Organization Administrator is responsible for individually adding each user to the organization account.

The Organization Administrator enables auto-user registration after setting up identity provider integration. Identity provider integration must be active before enabling auto-user registration. If your identity provider integration is disabled, auto-user registration will also be disabled.

When auto-user registration is enabled, new users click on a provided auto-user registration link and complete the process to create and register their individual Red Hat accounts with their organization’s Red Hat account.

Note

Auto-user registration only impacts users creating Red Hat accounts for the first time. Pre-existing Red Hat account users will remain unaffected.

The Organization Administrator can enable auto-user registration for their organization.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Hybrid Cloud Console > Settings > Authentication Policy > Identity Provider Integration.
  2. Verify identity provider configuration is enabled. If identity provider configuration is not enabled, the auto-user registration tab is not available.

  3. Click the Auto-user registration tab.
  4. Click Enable auto-user registration to activate the registration link.
  5. Under Default user permissions, Select the default user permissions you want for all new users who will register through the link and click Save permissions.

    • The default user permission options include:

      • Manage Support Cases: Allows users to download Red Hat software packages from the Customer Portal
      • Download Software and Updates: Allows users to create and manage technical support cases
  6. Copy the generated auto-user registration link.

    Note

The registration link is specific to your organization’s Red Hat account and will not change. While this link should not be shared outside of your organization, any user joining your organization’s Red Hat account must authenticate via your integrated identity provider in order to create their Red Hat user account.

  7. Use your preferred communication channel to share the registration link with users that you want to join your organization’s Red Hat account.

Chapter 3. Log in with auto-user registration

New users on a Red Hat account in your organization are prompted to complete the registration process when they first log in.

    Note

In some instances, a new page may open that requires you to read and acknowledge the Red Hat account agreements in order to continue.

  4. Check your email for a Red Hat account verification link. Click the verification link in the email to complete your account set up.

Result

Your Red Hat user account is now successfully set up and registered with your organization’s corporate Red Hat account.

After setting up a new Red Hat user account with auto-user registration, the Organization Administrator may want to verify that the user account is registered with the correct organization.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Hybrid Cloud Console > Settings > User access > Users.
  2. Review the list of your organization’s users.

    • If the new user’s Red Hat account information appears in the list, the new user account has been registered with your organization’s account successfully.
