Chapter 4. Certification lifecycle

The certification lifecycle ensures that your products remain compliant and functional throughout their deployment. This includes initial certification, ongoing validation, and necessary recertification to align with updates and releases of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift (RHOSO).

4.1. Product certification lifecycle

Certification is granted on a specific major and minor release of RHOSO. For example, RHOSO 18.0, where 18 is the major release and 0 is the minor release.

While the certification remains valid throughout the lifespan of the major release, for example, RHOSO 18, there are specific instances where recertification is required. These instances are detailed in the Recertification.

4.2. Continual testing

You are responsible for ongoing internal testing throughout the lifecycle of your product and the major version of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift on which you are certified. You are encouraged to use Continuous Integration (CI) systems like DCI, including testing with certification tests. While results from CI testing are not required to be submitted to Red Hat, you should monitor these results for regressions and unexpected behaviors, indicating when recertification may be necessary.

You may have access to pre-release software builds of Red Hat OpenStack Platform and are encouraged to begin initial and CI testing and engage with the Red Hat Certification team before the general availability of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift versions. Final testing and container builds must be conducted on the generally available (GA) released containers for that major release.

4.3. Recertification

Red Hat will notify you and request recertification in the following cases:

  • Introduction of a new major release of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift.
  • Release of a new minor version of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift that introduces additional features or functionality not covered in a previous certification but desired by you.
  • Update to the kernel in a new minor release of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift, upon which your product relies.

You must notify Red Hat , and are required to recertify your product in the following cases:

  • A new major update to your product that invalidates the original testing conducted in the original certification. Introduction of a major update to your product that invalidates the original testing conducted in the initial certification.
  • Release of a minor update to your product that alters the original certification test plan.

In each of these cases, a new certification submission is required. In minor release updates of Red Hat and your products, certification efforts and test plan focus on testing new features and functionalities not previously covered, as established features are expected to be maintained through continual testing.

When a customized container image is provided as part of your OpenStack certification, it is important to rebuild these images with each z-stream release of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift for a specific Major-Minor release. This ensures that your image incorporates the latest bug fixes and CVEs.

Note

For RHOSO container recertification, revalidation of product functionality is not required if no modifications have been made.

Note

As part of the certification process, a must-gather report is collected that includes system and diagnostic information, such as configuration details, system logs, and other relevant data. This collected data is crucial in times of failure, as it helps to understand and diagnose issues effectively.
