Chapter 2. Top New Features

This section provides an overview of the top new features in this release of Red Hat OpenStack Platform.

2.1. Red Hat OpenStack Platform Director

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8 brings several notable new enhancements for the director:
  • Broader support for Cisco Networking through Neutron, including:
    • N1KV ML2 plug-in
    • N1KV VEM and VSM modules
    • Nexus 9K ML2 plug-in
    • UCSM ML2 plug-in
  • New parameters for network configuration in environment files, including type_drivers, service_plugins and core_plugin.
  • Big Switch Networks support, including Big Switch ML2 plugin, LLDP, and bonding support
  • VXLAN is now the default overlay network. This is because VXLAN performs better and NICs with VXLAN offload are more common.
  • MariaDB’s maximum number of connections now scales with the number of CPU cores in the Controller nodes.
  • The director can now set RabbitMQ’s file descriptor limits.
  • SSL support for Red Hat OpenStack Platform components deployed on nodes in overclouds.
  • IPv6 support for overcloud nodes.
