5.3. Removed Features

The following table describes features that have been removed in this version of Red Hat Virtualization.

Table 5.3. Removed Features
Removed FeatureDetails

Metrics Store

Metrics Store support has been removed in Red Hat Virtualization 4.4.

Administrators can use the Data Warehouse with Grafana dashboards (deployed by default with Red Hat Virtualization 4.4) to view metrics and inventory reports. See Grafana.com for information on Grafana. Administrators can also send metrics and logs to a standalone Elasticsearch instance. See Deprecation of RHV Metrics Store and Alternative Solutions

Version 3 REST API

Version 3 of the REST API is no longer supported. Use the version 4 REST API.

Version 3 SDKs

Version 3 of the SDKs for Java, Python, and Ruby are no longer supported. Use the version 4 SDK for Java, Python, or Ruby.

RHEVM Shell

Red Hat Virtualization’s specialized command line interface is no longer supported. Use the version 4 SDK for Java, Python, or Ruby, or the version 4 REST API.

Iptables

Use the firewalld service.

Note

iptables is only supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 hosts, in clusters with compatibility version 4.2 or 4.3. You can only add Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 hosts to clusters with firewall type firewalld.

Conroe, Penryn, Opteron G1, Opteron G2, and Opteron G3 CPU types

Use newer CPU types.

IBRS CPU types

Use newer fixes.

3.6, 4.0 and 4.1 cluster compatibility versions

Use a newer cluster compatibility version. Upgrade the compatibility version of existing clusters.

cockpit-machines-ovirt

The cockpit-machines-ovirt package is not included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and is not supported in Red Hat Virtualization Host 4.4. Use the Administration Portal.

ovirt-guest-tools

ovirt-guest-tools has been replaced with a new WiX-based installer, included in Virtio-Win. You can download the ISO file containing the Windows guest drivers, agents, and installers from latest virtio-win downloads

OpenStack Neutron deployment

The Red Hat Virtualization 4.4.0 release removes OpenStack Neutron deployment, including the automatic deployment of the Neutron agents through the Network Provider tab in the New Host window and the AgentConfiguration in the REST-API. Use the following components instead:

- To deploy OpenStack hosts, use the OpenStack Platform Director/TripleO.

- The Open vSwitch interface mappings are already managed automatically by VDSM in clusters with switch type OVS.

- To manage the deployment of ovirt-provider-ovn-driver on a cluster, update the cluster’s "Default Network Provider" attribute.

screen

With this update to RHEL 8-based hosts, the screen package is removed. The current release installs the tmux package on RHEL 8-based hosts instead of screen.

Application Provisioning Tool service (APT)

With this release, the virtio-win installer replaces the APT service.

ovirt-engine-api-explorer

The ovirt-engine-api-explorer package has been deprecated and removed in Red Hat Virtualization Manager 4.4.3. Customers should use the official REST API Guide instead, which provides the same information as ovirt-engine-api-explorer. See REST API Guide.

DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit)

Experimental support for DPDK has been removed in Red Hat Virtualization 4.4.4.

VDSM hooks

Starting with Red Hat Virtualization 4.4.7, VDSM hooks are not installed by default. You can manually install VDSM hooks as needed.

Foreman integration

Provisioning hosts using Foreman, which is initiated from Red Hat Virtualization Manager, is removed in Red Hat Virtualization 4.4.7.

Removing this neither affects the ability to manage Red Hat Virtualization virtual machines from Satellite nor the ability for Red Hat Virtualization to work with errata from Satellite for hosts and virtual machines.

Cockpit installation for Self-hosted engine

Using Cockpit to install the self-hosted engine is no longer supported. Use the command line installation.

oVirt Scheduler Proxy

The ovirt-scheduler-proxy package is removed in Red Hat Virtualization 4.4 SP1.

Ruby software development kit (SDK)

The Ruby SDK is no longer supported.

systemtap

The systemtap package is no longer supported on RHVH 4.4.

Red Hat Virtualization Manager (RHVM) appliance

With this release, the Red Hat Virtualization Manager (RHVM) appliance is being retired. Following this release, you can update the RHVM by running the dnf update command followed by engine-setup after connecting to the Content Delivery Network.

DISA STIG for Red Hat Virtualization Host (RHVH)

The DISA STIG security profile is no longer supported for RHVH. Use the RHEL host with a DISA STIG profile instead.
