6.2. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor Hosts

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor hosts are installed using a special build of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with only the packages required to host virtual machines. They run stateless, not writing any changes to disk unless explicitly required to.

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor hosts can be added directly to, and configured by, the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager. Alternatively a host can be configured locally to connect to the Manager; the Manager then is only used to approve the host to be used in the environment.

Unlike Red Hat Enterprise Linux hosts, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor hosts cannot be added to clusters that have been enabled for Gluster service for use as Red Hat Gluster Storage nodes.
