Set up execution environment builder
Configure permissions, connect your Git provider, and set up content sources before users can create and build execution environments.
Complete the following steps to set up execution environment builder:
- Configure collection discovery sources for your Git repositories and private automation hub.
- Connect to GitHub — configure a GitHub App or PAT for content discovery, and an OAuth App for saving definitions.
- Connect to GitLab — configure a PAT for content discovery, an OAuth App for saving definitions, and CI/CD variables for automated builds.
- Configure wizard templates — host templates in a private repository if needed, and enable cloud or network automation templates.
- Create standardized templates for your teams.
- Synchronize content sources.
- Configure permissions — grant execution environment builder access to non-admin users.
- Prerequisites and planning
Before configuring execution environment builder, decide which Git provider your organization uses and understand the authentication method and security requirements for each capability. - Configure collection discovery sources
Configure Git content discovery and private automation hub collection discovery so that Ansible collections are available in execution environment builder and the collection catalog. - Connect to GitHub
Configure a GitHub App, personal access token, or OAuth App to enable content discovery and definition saving from GitHub repositories. - Connect to GitLab
Configure a personal access token and OAuth App to enable content discovery, definition saving, and automated builds from GitLab repositories. - Configure wizard templates
Configure the execution environment wizard templates that are available to users when creating execution environment definitions in Ansible automation portal. - Create standardized execution environment templates for teams
Create pre-configured EE templates so that your teams start from a known-good baseline without choosing every dependency from scratch. - Apply configuration changes
Apply configuration changes after modifying your Helm chart values or RHEL appliance configuration file for execution environment builder. - Synchronize content sources
Sync content from your configured Git repositories and private automation hub to keep the Ansible automation portal catalog current. - Execution environment builder permissions
Execution environment builder uses navigation-level permissions that control which sidebar items and pages are visible to users in Ansible automation portal.
