Chapter 3. Support matrix for upgrade scenarios


Determine which upgrade paths are supported for your current Ansible Automation Platform deployment. The following reference tables show RHEL version compatibility and give step-by-step upgrade processes organized by deployment type: RPM-based, container-based, and OpenShift Container Platform deployments.

Note

In-place upgrades of major RHEL versions are not supported. You must migrate your existing deployment of Ansible Automation Platform to a new RHEL environment.

3.1. Supported RHEL versions by deployment type

Supported RHEL versions differ among deployment types, as shown in the following table.

Container-based Ansible Automation Platform 2.6 on RHEL 10

  1. Backup your deployment of 2.4 RPM on RHEL 8, then restore to a RHEL 9 environment running a fresh installation of RPM 2.4.
  2. Upgrade your RPM deployment from 2.4 to 2.6.
  3. Migrate your RPM deployment 2.6 to a container deployment 2.6.
  4. Backup your deployment of container 2.6 on RHEL 9, then restore to a RHEL 10 environment running a fresh container installation 2.6.

Ansible Automation Platform on OpenShift Container Platform 2.6

  1. Backup your deployment of 2.4 RPM on RHEL 8, then restore to a RHEL 9 environment running a fresh installation of RPM 2.4.
  2. Upgrade your RPM deployment from 2.4 to 2.6.
  3. Migrate your RPM deployment 2.6 to Ansible Automation Platform on OpenShift Container Platform 2.6.
