Tracks for achieving Storage Appliance Certification
You can apply for certification through four different tracks. These tracks cover previously untested storage arrays, directly tested arrays, or pass-through storage arrays.
- Directly tested storage arrays
- Storage arrays tested during software certification. Red Hat certifies these arrays based on testing during the software certification process.
- Pass-through storage arrays
- Storage arrays not directly tested during software certification. These arrays are identical to the directly tested array but have a different model name. Red Hat certifies these arrays based on this equivalency.
- Pass-through for size storage arrays
- Storage arrays not directly tested during software certification. These arrays match the directly tested array except for storage capacity changes. Red Hat certifies these arrays based on this equivalency.
- Pass-through for design storage arrays
- Storage arrays not directly tested during software certification. These arrays contain the same control hardware and logic as the directly tested array. They provide the same interface to the software. Red Hat certifies these arrays based on this equivalency.
Red Hat requires partners to test hardware during software certification. You can test hardware directly or through partner-declared equivalency. Test for each protocol and architecture that the storage array supports in its specifications.
This policy mirrors Red Hat’s other hardware certifications. Testing every possible configuration is impractical. Red Hat does not require partners to retest hardware with only immaterial external changes. Red Hat and the hardware partner test a strategic, representative sample set. This approach covers expected customer experiences and relies on partnership agreements to handle unexpected scenarios.
